This is a very subtle change in appearance, especially for the "make one" increase, which is almost invisible and creates a very nice smooth finish. I'm just doing some knit stitch here, so I'm alternating between knit rows and purl rows. I am currently on the purl row. The first thing to look at when doing an m1P is the yarn that runs between the two needles. You've got to find the horizontal piece of yarn that's almost in the center, between two loops. This horizontal piece of yarn is very important in the "make one" increase, as you're going to be creating the extra stitch from this yarn. To do a right-leaning m1P, you take your left-hand needle tip and go from back to front underneath this horizontal piece of yarn, hooking that yarn onto your left needle. Then, you just need to do a normal purl stitch by taking your right-hand needle down through the front of that new stitch, wrapping the yarn, and then completing the purl stitch to create a new stitch on the right-hand needle. There you go, you've done an m1P, which is right-leaning and is a single increase, increasing the number of stitches by one. So, I'll just do a couple more purl stitches and show you this again.
